29 Oct 2008
Okay, it's the 29th. Every team has played except for the Bobcats and the Mavericks, so we've seen almost every team in action. Here's what I think about it all so far:

Awwww, how cute. Paul Pierce and KG shed some tears during their ring and banner ceremony. Thats the bitch in both of them! LOL j/k. Real men show emotion, and theres nothing wrong with being as happy as them. These guys worked so hard their whole careers, taking so much shit. Finally winning a championship means the world to them. P-Squared was all business when it came to the game against the LeBrons. The Truth dropped 27 leading the Celts to a win in one of the boringest games I ever watched.

Looks like Greg Oden is gonna be whippin' out his fresh jeans and collared shirts. Oden landed on Derek Fishers ankle, and will be out 2-4 week (read Rob's post below). The Lakers' defense looked much improved from last year (they emphasized this in the off-season) and beat the Blazers by 20.

The next victims of the Lakers and their "Bench Mob" were the Clippers. They wore their purple jerseys but played on their home floor against the Clippers. B-Diddy's homecoming was spoiled by the Lakers 38 point win. NBA champs anyone?

Derrick Rose looked solid droppin 11 points and 9 dimes leading his Bulls to a win over the Bucks. (read my boy Rob's post for more about Rose)

Jermaine Oneal's debut was a bit more impressive than Elton Brand's. J.O. dropped 17 while Elton had 14. The real story was CB4. The Toronto Raptor himself (dudes neck is long as fuck) had 27. Chris Bosh dominated this one, and let everyone know this is still his team.

All ball bitch. Timmy probably got this foul called since he screams like he's getting raped everytime he gets stripped. The Big Cactus (or the Sensei) looked solid tonight with 15 and 13. Amare Stoudamire looked even better (no homo). Tim Duncan was hitting shots from all over the floor, and Tony Longoria did his thing for the Spurrrrs. Phoenix won 103-98 in San Antonio. San Antone isnt used to losing on opening day, but shit happens suckaa.

Mike D'Antoni, the Savior? He's so perfect for the Knickerbockers. The Knicks are a bunch of young guys who like to run and shoot, aka Eddy Curry's worst nightmare. Dude isnt part of D'Antoni's rotation, and neither is Marbury. This reminds me of that YouTube video Marbury made a couple years back where he preached how him, Eddie Curry and Zach Randolph would be the Knicks. Today, Zach Randolph was the only one who played. He had 20 in a win against the Heat (good shit Knicks). Marbury and Curry got fat DNP's. YOUCH!

Whats a "chucker"? In a basketball dictionary, its a guy who does nothing but shoot 3s, and doesnt make any of them. 7 3-point field goal attempts O.J. SEVEN!!! How many did he hit? Refer to Gilbert Arenas' jersey number (or how many points he scored tonight). Obviously this isnt good, as he ended up goin 5/20 from the field. 20 shots is waaay too much, unless he's making them. He took a lot of shots from the Grizz best player Rudy Gay (dudes on my fantasy team). The Rockets big 3 didnt look THAT impressive as they barely edged the Grizz by 11 (the game was closer the whole game). Yao, Artest, and T-Back, I mean Mac had 21, 16, and 16 respectively.

Yeah the Jazz beat the Nuggets, but Carmelo (another fantasy player of mine. FUCK) was suspended and D-Will was out so I imagine that game was boring.

The Hawks beat the Magic by 14 (are they for real?)

V.C. led the Nets by 21 to beat the Gilbert-less Wizzzzzzards by 10

Pacers were led by Danny Granger who had 33 (all-star?), but lost to the Pistons by 6. Tayshaun led with 19.

Wolves beat the Kings by 2 (wow, great game) on their new floor. Kevin Love was impressive and Al Jefferson had 21 and 10 (he'll average about that).

Bucks beat the Thunder (who cares)

And the Hornets were led by CP3 to defeat the Warriors by 5. He played huge towards the end. DWest (I think he was a one season wonder, guess I was wrong) led them with 24.

These games werent really relevant to me. I thought Id go in-depth on the games I thought were important and interesting. This season is looking like its going to be a lot of fun. There are clear teams to beat (the Lakers and Celtics) and many contenders. Anything can happen. The season is looking to be exciting with all the young players and stars in the League. I'm loving it. No, I loves it.

Tonight was the debut of many rookies in the NBA, but no two are linked together like Kevin Love and OJ Mayo. Kevin Love was traded on draft night for the draft rights to OJ Mayo, which looked to be a parallel of the Roy-Foye trade of 2006(This time the Wolves got Mike Miller, who is a good scorer, rebounder, and underrated passer). Tonight, Kevin Love looked solid; racking up two AND1 shots, blocking shots, and even threw down a two-handed dunk that teammate Rashad McCants bounced to him. Love finished the game with 12 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 turnovers and 2 blocked shots in only 18:31 of playing time off the bench; he then returned to the bench after picking up his fourth foul, and Coach Randy Wittman needed a vet to finish the nail biter at the Target center, which resulted in a win.

OJ Mayo on the other hand seemed to struggle with his shot, going 5-20 from the field(missing all seven of his three-point attempts) and finished with 10 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 turnovers and two steals in a loss to the Houston Rockets.

PS - He played 40 minutes!

So as Wednesday night concludes in the NBA; Kevin Love: 1, OJ Mayo: 0

Andrew Bynum (seen above with what looks like a animal rights activist. yuck!) apparently had a 21st birthday party the night before the Lakers season opener against the Portland Trailblazers (the Lakers won 96-76). Good idea? Hell no. Also above is a video of Andrew Bynum 'making it rain' at his party. Does this mean he is close to that $85 million contract with the Lakers? Probably not, because he admitted it was only $100 in ones. Coach Phil Jackson accidentally found the video on YouTube while watching another unrelated video. Not smart on Bynum's part to party a day before your team's first game (and 4 days before your contract with the Lakers is due). His game reflected this incident. The Bynum vs. Oden matchup was non existent (read Rob's post below) as the Ariza vs. Fernandez battle was more exciting.

Bynum managed to rack up 8 points, 3 blocks, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist. $85 mil? Fuck that.

Utah Guard Deron Williams will not be playing in the season opener against Denver, and could possibly be out for Saturday's game against the Clippers; 1320 KFAN reports. Deron Williams suffered an ankle injury in the pre-season during a game against the Chicago Bulls

Tonight was not the debut any rookie in any league would have wanted. Rookie center Greg Oden of the Trailblazers started off the game with two quick fouls in the first five minutes of the game and was then benched for the rest of the quarter. He then came back in the second quarter only to to suffer a mid-foot sprain, and will have an MRI on wednesday. Oden twisted his foot after fighting for a rebound with Laker's Center Andrew Bynum. Oden then spoke about it in the media and said he "Landed on the side of Fisher's foot.". Is Greg Oden going the path of Sam Bowie; another beloved big man in college who's career was plagued by injruies?  Or is Greg Oden really a 40 year old man? We either need to see the results on his injury, or see his date of birth.

The good news? The injury seemed like a freak accident and Oden still played about four minutes after the injury, so at least he was still able to run with it before calling it quits.

Greg Oden finished the game with 0 points, 5 rebounds on 0-4 shooting in 12 minutes and 51 seconds.

Yeah, Al Harrington reportedely wants out of Golden State. Not because their gonna suck a fat dick like my girl Lela Star, but because of the coach. Don Nelson is one of the most succesful and famous coaches of all-time. The dude looks so much fun to be coached by. He's open-minded to what/ how the players want to play. So why wouldnt you want to play for him? Harrington wants out ASAP and there have already been deals offered.

And cmon, look at that picture. Nellie looks like he wants to make love to Al in it. Sure Baron's no longer there, but it seriously looks like Nellie wants to rub Eucarin on Al's head after the game to get rid of those damn wrinkles and folds.

And look at where Baron's hands are. NO HOMO

What that means is, the Lakers signed him to a contract with an "option". The first 3 years were guaranteed (this being his 3rd season) and we decided to sign him up for that 4th year (basically we signed him hella early. dudes a monster). This is good as he is becoming a gem and a STEAL when they drafted him 26th in 2006.

But the signing the Lakers are having a hard time with is Andrew Bynum. He'll make about $3,000,000 this season, and I know he deserves more than that, but $14,000,000 more!?!? Bynum's agent David Lee (not the guy on the Knicks) reportedley wants an $85,000,000 contract over 5 years. That's almost Kobe money right there. He averaged 13/10 (sometimes comin off the bench for KWAME BROWN) in 35 games. 35 GAMES! Thats not even half a season Drew, cmon. He looks like he deserves it, but its a HUGE risk after all that time it took to recover from the injury.

Link to RealGM story

Or maybe we wont sign him because he's not the best center in the league. Its because - not Dwight, not Yao - but SHAQ is. Hes seen above i assume to have his way with Gasol. Gasol is softer than baby shit I swear. He claims its because of what he has accomplished, and in that sense I guess he's right.

Contrary to what my co-writer Rob wrote, LeBron James and the Cavs WONT be motivated to see Boston get their rings and their 17th banner hoisted up into the rafters. Frankly, I dont blame [him] them. The Cavs were one win away from defeating the eventual champs. It must hurt knowing that. Had the Cavs won that series, would they be the Champs? Most likely not, because Doc Rivers exposed Phil "The Zen Master" Jackson's triangle offense; something I dont think Mike Brown is capable of doing. But you can never be too sure. Is this the year LeBron takes Kobe's title of "Best player on the planet?". Yeah Steve Nash won the MVP twice, Dirk won it, KG wont it, Timmy won it a couple times; yet analysts still referred to Kobe was "the best player on the planet (something I still cant understand to this day. Its amazing last year was Kobe's first MVP)". LeBron feels that he should have won that series, and that he was one game away from a Championship. The addition of Mo Williams is HUGE for the LeBrons (Cavs). They needed a decent PG and a shooter, and they got both in Williams. We saw LeBron as the vocal leader of the Redeem Team over the summer, and shows that he's matured. His game has matured as well (the guy is 23 years old. what the fuck).

LeBron not wanting to see Boston get their rings actually tells me how motivated this guy is. He knows that the Celtics should be seeing HIM get his ring on. You never want to see someone getting something that should be yours. LeBron's out to get his this year, which spells bad news bears (k, I'll stop) for the rest of the league.

...and its not who you'd expect

In the 2007-2008 season, there were a handful of basketball players who I watched and went "That guy is going to be an all-star.", but they got snubbed because of reasons unknown. In my opinion, the All-Star voting system is shady and inconsistent. How can you keep voting in Kevin Garnett to be an all-star when he was on a less than mediocre Wolves team, and Dwyane Wade when he was on the worst NBA team of 2007-2008, but can't vote in players who are also deserving, but they were on bad teams. Some of these players listed aren't all on bad teams, but they are definitely going to be All-stars.

Here now, is the list of 13 top players who I think have a chance to become All-stars, going from the least to greatest chance.(No rookies are on this list because I do not like to rate people who haven't played an NBA game yet)

13. Rodney Stuckey

First let me get this out of the way: This dude can flat out ball. His offensive game reminds me of Dwyane Wade the way he just goes out there and uses his body to score. With Billups getting old, wait, scratch that. Even with Billups still being a huge piece to Detroit's core, I still expect Stuckey to average AT LEAST 35 minutes per game at both guard positions. It's a shame he couldn't have showcased his skills earlier with that hand injury he suffered early in the season, but now that he is fully healthy, look for Stuckey to be a household name, if he isn't already from what he showed in the Boston Series.

Rodney Stuckey's Stat averages per 36 minutes: 14.5 points / 4.3 rebounds / 5.3 assists / 1.6 steals

12. Leandro Barbosa

Beep Beep. No, it isn't the road runner, it's Leandro freaking Barbosa driving past you for the layup. Seriously, this guy is a blur, but he isn't too fast for us to see how good this guy is. The Brazilian Blur, as they like to call him, is averaging roughly(rounded up) 16 points / 3 rebounds / 3 assists / 1 steal in just under 30 minutes a game. That is only going to go up with Steve Nash nearing the end of his NBA career, and it is going to pay off for Barbosa in the end.

11. LaMarcus Aldridge

Some of you might be wondering why LA is so low on my list. The reason is because the Blazers already have an All-star on their team in Roy, and a potential star in Greg Oden, which could end up making LA look not as good as he really is(Or he could be better with Oden giving him space for his mid-range game, the answers are yet to come). Plus, the Forward-Center position is so stacked on the West, it would take LaMarcus a miracle season to become an all-star. Still though, I expect him to be at the All-Star game at least once in his career, he could have been one if the Bulls had only kept him and not taken TyBust Thomas.

10. Jose Calderon

Even though Jose Calderon looks like a Caveman with a basketball in his hands, it doesn't stop me from believing he won't be an all-star. Jose was on the cusp of being part of NBA history, just missing out on joining Larry Bird, Reggie Miller, Mark Price and Dirk Nowitzki as the only players to average above 50% FG, 40% 3pt, and 90% FT. With TJ Ford now out of the picture and Jermaine O'neal in, Jose will now have many options to rack assists from, ssd will be amongst the talk when discussing the league's top Point Guards.

9. Josh Smith

Rick Kamla said it best on his NBA fantasy show: You won't find a player more unique than Josh Smith. I have never met a player who is as athletic as he is making plays, rebounding the ball, stroking the 3, stealing the ball and dunking from what sometimes looks from beyond half-court.LeBron James is his main competition for making the SF position at the all-star game, but he is going to be favored in the future as his backup man.

8. Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant needs to work on some things before he can become a star. One is shot selection. I swear, KD is two field goal attempts away from being a taller Jamal Crawford, but I see Durant pulling away from that "Must shoot" phase, and he will have a better shot selection and *hopefully* better teammates in which he can rely on to score. Once he gets more meat on his bones. People forget that he is only 20 years old, and score 20ppg against GROWN MEN and he isn't even old enough to legally drink alcohol.

7. Rudy Gay

Everyone knows who Rudy Gay is, but you will see nobody, and I mean NOBODY wearing his jersey on the streets. That doesn't keep him from being one of the leagues rising stars, in the same athletic class as guys like LeBron James, Andre Igoudala, Amare Stoudermire, and the rest of the jumping jacks the league has to offer. The Memphis Grizzlies are officially Rudy's team, with Pau off to the Lakers and Mike Miller calling Minnesota home, expect Rudy to rack up a couple thousand more all-star votes in the future.

6. Monta Ellis

I don't care if this picture offends you; Monta Ellis is stupid for riding a Moped after inking a deal bigger than Rosie O Donnel's stomach. Monta was going to be the leader of a Baron-less Warriors squad, and he would have been hogging the majority of the guard minutes and taken most of the shots, but he had to go joy riding and potentially messed up himself. Even though it was a freak accident, hopefully he makes a full recovery, Monta was just an amazing person to watch finishing around the rim.

5. Andre Igoudala

Excitement is what the ASG is all about, and Andre Igoudala knows how to get people excited. The high flying 76er reminds me of a poor mans LeBron James with a heavy lisp. Andre has serious potential to average 20/7/7, and as the leader of a playoff caliber team, he could turn some heads and get people to notice him with his team being on the rise.

4. Kevin Martin

Something about Kevin Martin is just so smooth, from the way he runs up the court, to his swagger, it's just something about him that has the "IT" factor. Forget the fact that he's a scary efficient scorer, he improves drastically year after year. Look at these averages season per season and tell me that he isn't going to be an all-star:

04-05 season: 2.9 points / 1.3 rebounds / 0.5 assists / 0.4 steals
05-06 season: 10.8 points / 3.6 rebounds / 1.3 assists / 0.8 steals
06-07 season: 20.2 points / 4.3 rebounds / 2.2 assists / 1.2 steals
07-08 season: 23.7 points / 4.5 rebounds / 2.1 assists / 0.9 steals

Now he is the official leader of the Kings, much like Rudy Gay, and I fully expect his stats and all-star talk to go up up up!

3. Andrew Bynum

I wonder if people outside of California knew what Andrew Bynum was capable of. Well, even if they didn't, now they do. Last year, Bynum erupted off the bench, posting up 13/10 in 36 games. Now, back from a knee injury, he will be playing alongside Pau Gasol, who's shooting touch will give Bynum more opportunities of single coverage in the paint, making him look even better than he did last year when coaches would send two guys on Bynum at a time. Hopefully this isn't a fluke and Andrew reaches the stars instead of plummeting back down to earth after signing a fat extension.

2. Al Jefferson

Call him a monster, a beast, a walking double-double; Al Jefferson applies to all of those names. Being part of the main piece of the Kevin Garnett deal, Al Jefferson has somewhat eased the pain of Minnesota fans, and have given them hope as the Wolves new Franchise Forward. Being only 1 of 2 players to average 20 points and 10 rebounds last season (Dwight Howard the other), Al Jefferson is on his way to the top, and if his team follows his lead, they will be in a good position to surprise people this season.

1. Deron Williams

The Words "No guts, No glory" are tattooed on Deron's right and left triceps, and he has all the guts to make it big, but still hasn't gotten any glory. Snubbed from last years all-star game, Deron Williams will undoubtedly make it as possibly Chris Paul's backup point guard with the aging of Steve Nash and Jason Kidd, or even the starting point guard if he has one hell of a season. If his international play wasn't enough to show all of the General managers and fans of the league that he is a star in this league, the 2008-2009 season will definitely be his playground to showcase his talent.
