Tonight is the season debut of the Charlotte Bobcats; a young team loaded with talent, but run by a GM that makes some of Isaiah Thomas' moves seem genius. I'm talking about Michael Jordan, arguably the greatest player of our time, but basketball talent does not translate to basketball management.
Last year, the Bobcat's finished the NBA regular season with a 32-50 fight for the playoffs, which is a one game setback of their 2006-2007 record of 33-49. Now,with Hall-Of-Fame coach Larry Brown teaching this young team, you can't help but either feel a sense of the Pistons and Sixers success, or him robbing the Knicks of their money(Basically what happened).
With Adam Morrison and Sean May seemingly healthy(Crosses fingers), the Bobcats will be at full strength, and Larry Brown will be able to utilize all his weapons. Look for Raymond Felton to be more of a passer than a scorer; Larry Brown loves to keep his point guards on a short leash. Also, Larry Brown should realize that Jason Richard has 6-3 Delton West guarding him, that should give Jason the easy advantage to molest him offensively.
Speaking of Jason Richardson, he has been the main guy in the Bobcat-Cavalier series. Check out his stats over their four games against each other:
Game 1: 18 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, 3 turnovers, 2 blocks
Game 2: 19 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, 5 turnovers, 2 blocks
Game 3: 33 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 1 turnover
Game 4: 31 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals, 1 turnover, 1 block
The second game of the Cleveland LeBrons happens tonight, and they have a pretty good chance of spoling the Cat's debut. If last season is any indicator of who is going to win, then the Cavaliers would be the team. Last season, the Cavaliers beat the Bobcats in three of their four meetings played, check it out.
Game 1: Bobcats win 96-93
Game 2: Cavs win 113-106 in 2OT
Game 3: Cavs win 98-91
Game 4: Cavs win 118-114
One thing I noticed about those four games? They are freaking close! It seems the Bobcats can keep up with the Cavaliers, and tonight should be a reasonably close game, and in the loss that the Cavaliers suffered, they didn't have LeBron James and still only lost by three.
By the way: Who's stopping LeBron? Maybe four or five security guards, but nobody on the Bobcat's roster will be able to stop a man as physically and skillfully nasty as LeBron is. Look for him to get a near triple double, or even get it tonight. Look at his game stats for the three games he played in:
Game 1: DNP - Left index finger sprain
Game 2: 31 points, 19 rebounds, 8 assists, 4 steals, 3 blocks, 8 turnovers
Game 3: 33 points, 7 rebounds, 10 assists, 1 steal, 1 turnover, 2 blocks
Game 4: 29 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals , 4 turnovers, 2 blocks ..Fouled out though
So look for LeBron to have a monster game, unless he fouls out tonight(Which likely won't happen), plus, it doesnt hurt that this is the Cavaliers home opener, which should feed the Cavaliers some energy.
